With a tear in our eye ….

Last week went by too quickly as we were getting ready to leave Rainbow Plantation. More rigs leave every days and most are heading north. All the activities are winding down and fewer people are signing up for the ones still left. Lydia attended the “end of the season” cooking class on the use of herbs and spices. The star of the “lunch” after the class was a grilled boneless prime rib.P1030678 Yummy!  P1030674Also, we got a recipe for an rv kitchen friendly carrot cake.  Double yum!  We had game nights with the gang and tried to cram in as many moments together as we could.  Unfortunately,  several of them have been under the weather with a respiratory virus that is rampant in Baldwin county. We wonder if it is  exacerbated by the high pollen count due to the "early" spring.

Melanie had sent our mail and it arrived on Tuesday containing both good and bad news. The bad news was a $300 tax bill for our travel trailer. UGH!! The high tax was partly due our new mailing address in Fulton County, GA. The good news P1030715was a birthday present for Jim from Lydia. She bought him a Kindle Touch, so now we are a two Kindle family. He’s still learning how to use it and finding it hard to break with the idea of holding a book while he reads.

We spent most of Wednesday getting ready to leave on Thursday morning. Even though we live in a small space we tend to expand outside when we can. All these things must be stored away before we can move. Barb and Terry had us and their neighbors, Ron and Ruth Phinney over for a goodbye dinner. Barb entertained us with some of her dvds of their past trips. She’s very talented and is sharing her knowledge of the program she uses.

We hit the road Thursday morning about 10am with a tear in our eye and headed back toward Georgia. The weather forecast was for lots of rain and wind.  P1030692Fortunately it missed us completely and we arrived at Seminole State Park in the southwest corner of Georgia. It is a beautiful park with mainly pull-through sites and we had a peaceful lakeside spot. Since we were only here an overnight we didn’t have time to hike the Gopher Tortoise Nature Trail.  Another item for our bucket list!

We arrived in Perry, GA at the (Good Sam Club) Georgia Spring Samboree on Friday afternoon.  After a very quick set up we hustled to find the registration booth and find out what was going on. On our way to get our free pint of Blue Bell ice cream, we ran into Glen and Linda from our Hard Labor Creek days. If you’ve been following our blog, you may remember that they are the couple who replaced us at the end of February and are the New York State Good Sam Club director and secretary respectively.  It was a nice reunion and together we toured the displays of the rv units on sale. We both decided if we win the lottery we might buy the new Ellipse. Oh, my – check out the link.

On Sunday we left Perry headed for Red Top Mountain State Park near Cartersville, GA. We stopped for gas and lunch near Griffin and on a whim called Lisa and Jimmy to see if they’d like to host us for a few days.  We weren’t sure we could park in their driveway but after a fantastic job of directing by Jim and backing byP1030708 Lydia, we had arrived! They were celebrating their 23rd anniversaryP1030718 with steaks and margaritas and we joined in a contributed a salad – what a deal!  Fun, fun, fun to spend extended time with them. We’re here for a few days and Lydia plans to do the cooking and help out around the house to express our thanks for the site. We hope to make a trip into Atlanta to see Melanie, David, and the grands before they leave for their Spring Break trip to Disney World on Friday.

‘Til next time ….
