We just completed our 8th Youth Fest here in Bent Tree. In case you forgot, during Youth Fest grand kids of Bent Tree residents register for special age related events scheduled during the week surrounding July 4th. Again, this year we had four grand kids (Zoe-4, Katie-7, Nicholas-9, and Olivia-8) join us from Sun 6/26 to Sun 7/3. Along with the special kids events come pool time, special dinners, lots of TV time, and video games.

I don't know about the grand kids, but I had some great memories of this year's Youth Fest. I will mention just a few: Nick and Olivia's first horse trial ride, Nick and I playing 9 holes of golf, and Olivia finishing 3rd in her age group for the one mile fun run. We took dozens of pictures, but we can only include a few in this blog. For the record, the grand kids rode horses, produced some interesting craft projects, played tennis, golf, bocce ball, and crochet, and did water aerobics. Lydia also helped with several activities and taught 2 sessions of jewelry making. We drove almost 60 miles without leaving Bent Tree carrying them to and fro.

Sleeping and feeding everyone was a real challenge. We started the week with the four grand kids plus two moms and Zack-2 for a total of nine in our little 2 BR villa. The moms and Zack left Wed am which gave us a manageable six people to handle. On Sat the Chewning and Robert families plus our son, Todd, joined us to bring the number up to 14 people. We all ate a big dinner at home before heading to the beach to await the fireworks. If you check your calendar, you know that Sat is 7/2, but the Youth Fest Committee decided that Sat was a better date for the firework instead of waiting until the traditional July 4th on Mon. No one seemed to mind the date shift.

We got home from the fireworks about 10pm and started to figure out where everyone (14 people) would sleep. We worked it out and by 11pm a quiet descended that lasted until 7am the next day. We had a late breakfast, then some lunch before people started to leave. By 4pm everyone was gone, so Lydia and I sat down for a moment. The cats came out of their hiding places and we all enjoyed the quiet for awhile. Another one for the memory books.
